The Lab’s brainstorming and conceptualisation process dates back to 2021. One year later, the product development was completed and ready to be launched. Unfortunately, that was the time the Covid-19 hit and left a devastating impact on Vietnam. The pandemic tremendously affected the supply chain, causing a shortage of material, an increase in the production cost and production time frame. The shrinking economy, fragile market and lockdowns also prevented everyone from unnecessary expenditure such as apparel. Across the country, countless businesses were forced to close down and filed for bankruptcy.
As a solopreneur, it’s already challenging enough for Ms. Jennifer to complete everything on her own, from planning, design, product development to branding. With the exponential expansion of Covid, the products that had been sent to other cities were returned back to Ho Chi Minh City. The economic crisis also postponed The Lab’s Experimental Fashion Store.
Transforming To E-Commerce
The business strategy was decided to be more agile. Instead of having a physical location, The Lab shifted to become an eCommerce business. The products, Commerce packing materials and labels took a lot of Ms. Jennifer’s living space, which inhibited her from enjoying life for nearly two years. It was utterly crucial for her to free up the space for refreshment and creative activities, as well as finding inspiration, sketching, and painting.
