The Client

Cube Self Storage assisted The Salters’ Company with the storage of 1000 boxes of wine and historical artwork.

The Project

The Salter’s Company had the requirement for the storage of wine and fine art which consisted of historical artworks such as;

• Portrait of King George III in Coronation Robes
• Portrait of Queen charlotte seated full length in Coronation Robes
• Portrait of King Charles I
• Portrait of William Robson
• Portrait of a Gentleman standing with a stick
• Lord Mayor of London, 1801, Master in 1805
• Adriaen Carpentiers (Court Room)
• Two banners

As with storing priceless historical masterpieces and delicate wine, the items had to be stored at a constant temperature and the right humidity levels.

The Solution

For this project, we curated a bespoke packing, transportation and storage plan for the client using our extensive expertise and experience in fine art management solutions for some of the world’s foremost museums, galleries, international corporations and private collectors.

For the optimum safety of the priceless historical pieces during transportation, we supplied 9 made to measure custom-made plywood foam-lined cases and enlisted the help of our sister company, Cube Relications Specialist Movers who have been in the relocations industry for over 25 years, to safely transport the items into Cube’s Climate Controlled Storage facility for storage.

The Process

On moving day, the team reported to site and began laying building protection materials to ensure protection of the building. Prior to moving day, our foreman conducted a Risk Assessment to access the building’s condition. Hardboards were laid from the reception and main entrance to vehicle points as well as all main access routes. Interiors were protected by use of hardboard and correx and main exit doors were layered with paper covers.

The team carefully packed the historical artworks into the custom-made plywood foam-lined cases and loaded the cases, as well as the 1100 boxes of wine, onto the Cube Relocations’ truck and safely transported the items into our climate-controlled storage. At our climate-controlled storage facility, our storage specialists constantly monitored temperature and humidity levels to prevent damage and premature ageing to both the wine and historical artworks.
